DO's Rehearsals and 扮仙

My mum called me yesterday to ask me if we're interested to join them in a performance at a temple in April. They're going to put up <<扮仙>>. My GF asked me to act 麻姑 and my mum suggested YZ to be 魁星 cum 状元.

I believe it's going to be very fun and I'm really excited about it. YZ and I will be going for the performance...haha...It is YZ's first time. I hope she will enjoy this experience :D

Well, performance means time is needed for rehearsals. We need to squeeze out some time for this show. Furthermore, DO is having a performance season from April to June. Therefore, time management is very important in this peak period. Every week is sooooo busy and packed with work and opera practices. Just like yesterday, YZ and I went for a meeting with the manager of GE Home early in the morning. Then, we spent the whole afternoon and night practising LS and SBXS (Part of it cos no time...).

This show was put up more than 1 year ago...I really enjoyed acting on the stage with the marvellous music co-played by the musicians from Zhang Zhou Xiangju Troupe. I simply love this experience :D

Yes! I finally have the time to post something up here.

I was back from Japan last week. I had sooooo many tasks to clear before I could really sit down to surf the internet... Work is awaiting for me...deadline's tomorrow :(

I enjoyed a lot in Fukuoka (Hakata) and those cities I went. The weather was pretty good and temperature was just nice. However, I felt that it was a little too dry for me so my nose and lips bled very often.

Things there are also very expensive....

I took many pictures and would post up on some other days...too lazy...

DO was invited to put up a performance again today. It was in the afternoon so we started our preparation very early.

I think I was pretty stressed as I was unwell for the past 2 weeks. I was afraid that I could not sing at all. Luckily, everything turned out to be fine. The performance was a success! The elderly enjoyed and hoped that we could go back to perform again...

SF and YY came to help today. The performance could not make it without them. Thank you, buddies!

A and I look forward to the next opportunity in Nov. I would say that we have been very lucky to have met people who appreciate our efforts. Moreover, my buddies are always there to support me whenever I need help. Without them, the show cannot go on. Thanks buddies in advance for your help!

I enjoyed the previous performance. Hopefully, the next one will be better. I have confidence in my stage partner and myself for we've put in lots of time and efforts. A friend told me that exposure was good and experience could be gained. Another told me that she wished to see me on stage again. I will not disappoint her. I will grab any chance of upgrading myself :) I think I have been doing this all these while...

I also so busy that day so I only took 1 picture with my buddy... really appreciate her help... She was so nice to go all the way to the east to support me. With her encouragement, I did not let her down that evening :)

That was the first time I dressed up as a xiaosheng. I felt a little uncomfortable at first but I managed to convince myself to get used to it. Although there were many hiccups that evening, the performance was a success. It gave me more confidence and motivation to move on...

I met an old friend that day. She mentioned about that issue. I was at a loss for words. Maybe it's a norm in this field. In the end, she gave me her blessings...Thank you, old friend!

It was an exciting day for me and my partner...I got up very early to get prepared for the performance. I hoped everything would be fine that evening.

SF came to help that day. It was very nice of her. She would also want to help on the next performance. We were having lots of fun in the room where we did our make-up. SF was very spontaneous and friendly. Both of them (SF & A) got along pretty well.

The audience's response was good and I was glad that we had made the elderly happy...shall upload pictures soon...

I went to the wedding banquet of EL and YL last month...saw many friends from sec school... I thought it was a good gathering session. We chatted a lot and talked about our lives...It was not crowded at Suntec although there was F1 race going on...I didn't get to watch the race but the noise made by the cars was sort of unbearable to me...

Friendship

Recently, I have been meeting up with friends from pri sch, sec sch and nie...This always happens during june and dec holidays as I usually have more time during these periods....Thanks to my friends who are very understanding. They know I can only meet them during these two months...

I went to Wheellock Place for lunch with Da Jie & Er Jie... It had been a year since we met and we're still very chatty during our meal. Well, we had so much to share about what happened for the past year...

I went to Paragon for dinner with EL and HY... I thought I will receive a red card from EL (who is getting married soon...) but the cards are not ready...HY, I'll put up the photos at facebook...

I went to Raffles City for dinner with SF and YY. We had a long chat and then we went Boat Quay for a drink and 'sight-seeing' after that...hoping to see somebodies...but in the end, we ended up leaving that pub pretty early...will post up the pictures soon...

Even if we're busy, it's really great to meet up with friends once in a while to find out more about one another. In my opinion, good friends are not necessary to be with you physically all the time, need not be seeing you everyday and frequently, need not keep on reminding you that they're your good friends (Believe me, some pple really do that!) , need not keep on msging or call you, bla bla bla... As long as they understand and really support you, that's friendship.

I really have to thank my good friends who are always there for me during my hard times...only you all understand what I'm going through recently and support and encourage me always...

Taiwan Trip

I visited Taiwan two weeks ago. My holidays lasted a week and I got to go to different parts of Taiwan to enjoy the food and scenery.

I arrived at Chiayi on the first night. After checking in, I went to the night market at Wen Hua Street. Food is really cheap and delicious there, especially 三色蛋 and 卤味.

On the second day, I took a train to Alisan. It took more than 4 hours to reach there.

Early in the morning, I took a train to Zhu Shan to see sunrise...It was really not easy for me to wake up so early and I had to climb up flights of stairs to get to the viewing point.

I arrived at Taipei in the evening on the third day. As the night was still young, I went to Ximending for a meal and at the same time, I went to take a picture of The Red Theatre.

On the next day, I went to watch Taiwanese Opera before going to Shilin for snacks. The performing troupe was Xiu Qin Ge Zi Xi Tuan.

I was told that I had to go to Taipei 101. I was pretty disappointed with that place. I left the place soon and went to Wu Fen Pu for shopping instead.

Finally, I went to Danshui for Fisherman's Wharf and Tie Dan.

It was really an enjoyable and fruitful trip for me. Given a chance, I would want to go there again...

Finally, the June hols are coming...so happy...

Life's a little more relaxed now since it's after examinations. I've got to work on my hol plans. I've finally confirmed my holiday trip. YEAH! Shopping time for me finally...(else my Buddy is gonna complain that I've run out of attire already...haha)

Finally, I managed to find time to go back to kh. I just went back there yesterday to get my things...sort of clear up my cupboard so as to make way for others...(Juan, (dunno if you have received my sms) your things are still with me...will return you on my next visit to kh k? Thanks...Cos I forgot to bring there yesterday...)

A Visit to Beijing

Last Dec, I went to Beijing for a short holiday. It was my first time there. I was pretty excited about it so I spent lots of time shopping for winter wear.

The weather was extremely cold (Around -10). I went to many places including Great Wall of China, etc...So sad as I was unwell since the second day so I didn't climb up to the peak...

Finally, I got a little time to blog again...

Life was very busy since the beginning of the year. I've been leading a fruitful life although a lot of changes took place. After deciding on the kind of life I want, I'm much happier now...

I'm planning to go for a holiday but it may be cancelled...sigh...

Oh yes, I may have to dance again in Children Day this year...I have not been attending class for sooooooo long...hopefully it will turn out well :P

The Fish Dance

On the last day of September, I was asked to stage a dance performance with the kids. I decided to use the fish dance... This was taken at Tampines CC in March this year.

After so many months, I started to rehearse on the dance. We did not have ample time to practise as I was tied down by too many meetings and remedials...Luckily, the kids were cooperative and the performance was a smooth one.

The Pri 1 pupils also put on another item. They did pretty well although this was their first time on stage.

After soooo many weeks of work and work and work, I finally cleared up everything with the kids. Now, they're having a long holiday but I have to continue to work...sigh....The good thing is it's not so hectic now. Hehe...

Terrible First Week

Like Mx and BBQ, I'm also having a hectic first week and it is still going on... There's so much work and this coming Friday, I've got to work till very late at night...sigh....Leader announced that there would be no practice on Thursday for Group Mai. I was wondering if it was a blessing in disguise. I would very much like to rehearse more but I really need to run errands for my work and myself...(Though I have to leave my school at 7.30pm, I have to continue to work at home....) Please lor, I need a life too! Who will be in the right mind to sell himself or herself entirely to work or opera?

Recently, one of my friends asked me casually if I would give up opera one day. Maybe my partner would want me to spend more time with him? I smiled and told him that I would maybe. People change as they grow older.

I feel that I have been neglecting my family for quite some time...I simply have too much work to do. I met my best friend online yesterday. I felt so paiseh as I wanted to meet her in June but I was too busy. I really appreciate her understanding...

Camp

When was the last time I went for a camp? I think it happened when I was in Secondary 2. I remember it was an English camp. We were sent there as the school felt that we needed to raise our standard of English. There were rules such as giving us a fine when we were caught speaking Mandarin. hahaha…weird…luckily spy cam was not ‘in’ at that time.

I’m not a ‘camp person’. I enjoy chalet more…Today was a long and boring day for me. Food was terrible at the camp.

We still had practice tonight. Finally managed to complete the show…I’m not going kh on Sat. I’m going to my colleague’s wedding…another chance to dress up…wahaha…

September Holidays

September holidays is supposed to be a good break for me. However, there are too many things to be done and settled... (work, opera, family and some personal issues). Life seems difficult for me this year. I'm trying to maintain my sunshine spirit but sometimes, it's just hard... Friends around me...pple seems to be prone to depression... Will I be the next one? I'm not sure...

A lot of unhappiness happened for the past few months...I am trying hard already...really trying hard to cope with the stress I face at work, family and kh...some pple may see me as a happy sunshine girl...but...how can the weather be so nice everyday one?

I went to SAFTI MI with my colleagues yesterday for Learning Journey. There is a very tall tower (88m) with 200 over steps. My colleagues suggested to climb up the stairs so I followed along. It was very tiring for me as I just had muscle cramp last Sat and had not recovered from it. The trip was an enjoyable one and we went to Kampong Glam for lunch.

Performance on 11 Nov @ Bukit Timah CC

We went to Bukit Timah CC for a performance today. The performance started at around 9pm so I only reached kh at about 3pm. However, kiasu me did not start putting on my makeup when I reached kh. I was called to rehearse with the dancers for The Banquet. I took my own sweet time and decided to start at about 5pm. I was so slow that I started to be very stress when I had not done with my hair do at about 7.30pm. Luckily, I managed to finished up everything and went to cc. Thanks to lf, zq, wmy,ya and xz for helping me. Thanks the dancers and yh to keep dinner for me.

East Coast Outing

I wanted to show xj and her kids' pic but really dunno why I couldn't load the pictures up...sianz...

Today I went to east coast with kh friends...Din really enjoy myself fully cos time was too short...went to meet sh,wmy and hm at katong shopping centre...Finally, i'm going to make a blue dress for practices...

We went to meet other kh friends after we left katong. We rented a bike each and cycled all the way to Bedok jetty from Mcdonald. Aiya, I fell off my bike on the way back to Mcdonald. So malu...

We left east coast around 7pm. Then I met my hub for movie. However, we din get to watch cos we were late for the scheduled time. In the end, we went to oasis for crabs...After that, we went to bowl @ west coast...Finally played till 2 plus...

Teachers' Day Dinner

I had the Teachers' Day Dinner at Le Meridien Hotel on 30 Aug. As the school started from 9am and ended at 12pm, we had a few hours to prepare and get dressed for the dinner. I wore my newly bought dress from Verge. I didn't bring camera on that night cos I was carrying a small bag. Such a waste!

After dinner, we agreed to go clubbing. I had not been to clubs for donkey years. Really! My life is too busy probably. So we went St James at Vivo City. It was my first time there and I saw a big crowd of pple queuing up, just to get into the place. My question is "Why do pple waste their time queuing up for a long time?" Haha...Maybe we're used to here...

I saw Sylvester Sim there. I was very surprised. He looked very young and I heard that he was only 20. However, he's cool and I think he sang well.

We took a few pictures using my colleagues' camera. Hopefully, they will give me soon for me to post up. Overall, I enjoyed my experience there although my colleague told me that I looked a little blur after drinking...hahaha...maybe I was tired...?

On the next day, I was too exhausted cos I slept at 4am. As usual, I went to kh and was late. Leader seemed unhappy. I was still very sleepy when we were rehearsing...Then I saw xj's sleepy face too...hahaha..

Performance at Drama Centre

Yesterday, I went to watch a gezixi performance at the drama centre. As it was a Friday evening, I had to rush down from my school after dismissal. Initially, I was afraid of the heavy traffic during peak hours. Luckily I was able to reach earlier and had my dinner at Hans.

The show was a comedy and I laughed a lot. After that, we went to mac for a drink and I got home rather late because they were a lot of people waiting for the cab.

Dumpling Practice

I went to practise the dumpling show today. I was very nervous because I was not confident at all. I'm afraid I would be blur like the first time.

However, leader coached us patiently and I got to learn a lot from her. Mx commented that I was better today compared to the previous practice...very encouraging le...

Leader also feedbacked that my movements were not "continuous"...very odd in this way. I got to work harder in this area.

Apart from that, the songs were difficult to sing and I was panting non stop when I moved and sang at the same time....no stamina...very disappointing....(mx was laughing at me...bad...)

I hope I can do better the next round.

First Day of the new school term

On the first day of the term, my colleague called me and asked me if I was at the school. Gosh! I had missed my meeting this morning...cos my mail account was down for a few days. So silly! It's a bad start for the term....hee...

It was a tiring day for me and I was still in the holiday mood....Overall, I think I have started to get used to the school days.

Good luck to me for the remaining school days this year.

Genting Trip

I went Genting for a few days with my hubby. It's a cooling place but the only attraction there is the casino. I don't think I will go there again.

Performance @ Fajar Shopping Centre

We went to Fajar Shopping Centre to perform yesterday. It was an outdoor show so we were perspiring and fanning all over. My make up melted before I went on stage so I quickly touched up with xj's super duper two-way cake, that can make my make up last longer.

I did my make up myself again. Actually xj and k wanted to come to my house for make up. However, xj decided not to because her hubby was not feeling well. K came and we were chatting non stop and doing our make up at the same time....In the end, k took more than 2 hours to finish up. That's unusual of her...LOL...

This photo was taken when we were on the way to Fajar. I like my lips but they were not drawn by me la....My hair was partly done by myself le...with the guidance of k and xj.

I happily announced that I did the make up myself today, with the help of mx and xj.

I looked better today as my make up was neater and brighter. My face is fairer la but I'm still not satisfied with some of my features...such as the small eyes, the lips and the cheeks....the way I smile....etc etc...How huh?

I think I only look better in this picture...haha...Very thin but less obvious flaws...haha...

Performances are coming

Well, I have to post new entries regularly or else someone or two will complain that my blog is stagnant...LOL...

Leader had gone to Brunei and there was no practice from Mon to Fri. I had been lazing around these few days. The thought of going back to serious business at kh is not so motivating. Hee...Anyway, I'm learning a new role in "Rain and Pavilion". This show is going to be put up twice in June. Hopefully I can catch the emotion and the expression leader expects from me. I will try hard... :)

We are also rehearsing on many other shows. One of them is about zither and sword. I don't really know that plot well and I have not watched this show before. Anyway, my concern is the role that Leader offers me. I'm very scared to take up that baddie role because it's too challanging for me and (I don't look like baddie what?)...don't you agree? LOL...

The other excitement is the new role that leader agrees to teach me. That's the village girl. A simple girl, not so clever and pretty, but she's kind and will uphold justice. I like this kind of xiao hua dan role cos they relate more to the reality. Thus, it's easier for me to understand the inner feelings compared to those qin yi roles. Headaches....

I hope with the help of my kakis, I'm able to put up many good shows...Help me add oil.

The most difficult Za Cui Diao

I had my 2nd singing lesson this evening. During the first lesson, teacher told us many theories and histories about chinese opera singing, etc. I almost fell asleep because I prefer practical than theory...in other words, I like activities than just listening.

This afternoon, teacher taught us how to sing shao jiang hai's song. This is the most difficult za cui diao I have ever encountered. The notes vary a lot and I don't even know how to read them...LOL...

Challenging indeed...but I will try my best to master this song...because I like za cui diao very much....MX, XJ and K....we shall work hard together....

Opera Sharing Session

I went to ML's house to watch some opera vcds. I was very curious to find out more about Taka cos I have not watched their perf before. So, I asked MX to bring Koju's show. This show is about two thieves, one was good and the other one steals for wealth (Koju's role). However, Koju turns over a new leaf in the end. I like this show very much cos Koju is very handsome and seductive...haha...

During the session, ML was very nice to cook us some noodles. I enjoyed watching and eating at the same time. We also watched a Tw show on the moth's cave. This troupe is very creative and daring to try out such performance. The results is good. I also enjoyed watching.
Before we went off, we also took some pictures of BoBo. This was the first time I took pictures with this KH baby. Haha...luckily, he's willing to take with me...

Malay Dance Performance

A primary school from Nanjing came to my school for an exchange program from Monday. We had to put up a dance item so we did a malay dance on Monday. We had performed this Malay dance last year but we had forgotten the steps. So, we went back every Sat to practise on the dance and this really took up most of our precious time on Sat morning. Despite all the troubles, I find it very fun and relaxing...

My friend hasn't sent me the photo taken that day and I shall post up next time....

Performance Season is over

YEAH! Finally, the performance season is over...We can rest at least one week...hahaha...

This time round, we still have to practise and rehearse a few shows despite having a long break. However, it's good because we get to truly learn and improve ourselves. I don't like to rush for performances as I didn't learn much out of it.

Kh is going to publish a book so some of us may have to help out in this area. We still go Kh for our classes and practices. Thanks to leader and friends for giving me opportunties and encouraging me to go for a challenging role. Though the show may not be staged so fast, it's a good thing that I can have more time to master it. I look forward to all my practices and I prefer leader to teach me personally...Haha...I get to learn more from one to one coaching. Maybe I'm slower. I'm a kinesthetic and visual learner. I need to move and talk about it before I can learn anything...haha...

Before all those continuous rehearsals, I need to go shopping!

Sat's Performance

Kh is going to stage a performance on 3 Families this coming Sat. Though I am not acting in this show, I have to help out on Sat. I like this show because it's very funny at some parts. I hope I will get a chance to watch it on Sat.

Kh is going to have a long break after Sat's performance. I'm very happy cos I can rest at home. However, I still have to memorise the scripts and practise my movements during the long break. According to leader, we're going to stage many shows after the break...

I hope I can manage cos I'm not very confident. I'm afraid of my panting problem, my facial expressions and my movements. I am always not able to bring out the emotions of the character...sigh...I'm always not able to pose nicely...hahaha... However, I'm grateful that I am given such opportunities to learn. Many thanks to my friends in kh, who have given me much support and help. Whenever I don't know, they are always very approachable. I can also learn many things from them.

Performance: Bloodshed

We had just finished our performance at Woodlands CC. I remembered I acted this show many years ago. At that time, I acted as a palace maid and that was the first time I went to Victoria Threate to perform. One unforgettable incident was I burned my make up box in the make up room. (LOL)

This time round, I acted as a soldier. I always feel uncomfortable when I act male roles because I tend to behave like a girl. The above picture will explain better....hahaha...

Long Time no Blog

It's such a long time that I last blogged. I will put up the pictures that were taken these few months since I returned to kh.

This is the first show that I acted when I returned to kh. I was very stressed up cos we performed this show at drama centre. Furthermore, I was still adapting to kh since I have not touched opera for many years.

This is a happy experience for me. My first time to Drama Centre. It was very cold at the backstage. We tried to take candid shots and made funny faces. I think my makeup was very nice cos it's done by k.

This is the first show after my customary. I was super stressed up due to lack of practices and my stamina has not recovered after my wedding. Leader and my kh friends were still worried for me a few days before the actual performance. I tend to pant a lot and I could not reach the high notes.

Luckily, it was over. I was sabotaged by the mic. Imagine the audience could not hear me at all (I caused them to watch pantomime). Maybe I was not sabotaged. It was all because of my soft voice. Though I did not do well for this show, I was glad that I gained some experience. My target is to gain as much as experience now and work on my acting skill. I will take up whatever role given to me as long as I can go on stage to learn.

This is the recent show. I was very excited when leader offered me this role. I acted this character once donkey years ago. I like this character very much cos she is very lively. This was also the first show that I learned when I first joined kh. I remembered my makeup and hairdo were terrible plus horrible. Mx couldn't stand me and decided to do a makeover for me. Hahaha...

After so many years, I acted the same role. I was still bothered about my panting problem. Leader and friends were still worried. Hahaha...I tried to control my diet a week before the actual performance and I was still coughing non-stop at the backtage.

Luckily it turned out to be fine despite looking like a kitchen maid. I felt that I was better than 7 years ago. I was more lively and my movements were slightly better. Of course I have my own secret weapon to help me....(shall not elaborate on this)......

Hopefully we can act this show again. I will want to improve some more.

Next Sat is another performance. Though I'm taking up a small role, I still look forward cos this is my fav show. I like the couple characters in this show (Somemore acted by pple who I like).
